Massage therapy, otherwise known as soft tissue therapy, is a holistic approach in treating and preventing muscle and connective tissue disorders through the systematic manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body with pressure. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue as well as lymphatic vessels. It has been scientifically proven to enhance muscle function, promote relaxation and wellbeing, increase circulation, reduce stress, reduce post exercise soreness, and improve work and sporting performance.
At Menai District Physiotherapy our massage therapists offer a range of massage styles including:
Remedial massage provides a healing treatment that can be gentle or strong, deep or shallow to help relieve the symptoms associated with injury, musculoskeletal problems and stress. There are several specialised techniques used to locate and repair damage and to support and speed up the body’s own repair mechanisms.
Some benefits of remedial massage include the stimulation of blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed, calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort and the toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility.
Whether you are the recreational sportsperson or the professional athlete, if you are looking for that competitive edge then a sports massage is for you.
Massage can do the following:
Massage during pregnancy has a number of benefits including promotion of circulation and inducing a state of relaxation, which assists in normalising all the body systems, calming the nervous system and bringing relief from muscle tension and cramping.
Post natal massage may help with depression, mood swings and help tone and strengthen the immune system. We have the option of pregnancy cushions during the massage for additional comfort and support for pregnant women.
