Melissa Tallent
Physiotherapist
BAppSc (Physio) APAM
Graduating from the University of Sydney in 2014, Mel has private practice experience with interests in musculoskeletal and sporting injuries, and clinical Pilates.
Mel has an extensive background in Netball as a prior National League
athlete, and has continued to be involved post playing career, currently
providing her skills to the NSW u17’s State Team and individual Sutherland
representative players. Mel has completed her APA Level 1 Sports Physiotherapy
course, and has a particular interest in knee and ankle injuries. This
experience has ensured she is highly skilled at not only rehabilitation for
return to competition, but also developing programs to address predisposing
risk factors to lower limb injuries.
Mel is also a graduate of the ConnectTherapy Series, which has
given her the skills to comprehensively assess and identify non-optimal
movement patterns and driving biomechanical factors in more complex patients.
This further study complements Mel’s qualification in Clinical Pilates, where
she has developed a special interest in the influence that neuromuscular
control plays in recovery and the prevention of recurrent injuries. She is an
advocate for movement being used as medicine, and incorporates specific
exercise prescription into her patients’ programs across the multiple Reformer Pilates classes she instructs each week, to ensure their goals are achieved.
Mel is qualified in dry needling, and has completed a range of other
professional development over the past few years. She is also a member of the
APA and Sports/Musculoskeletal special interest groups.
